Ven a conocer la Volvo Ocean Race

1.- La Volvo Ocean Race y Alicante

La ciudad de Alicante acogerá por cuarta vez el paso de la carrera de vela más importante del mundo, y será su segunda vez desde que fue nombrada puerto de partida permanente. Sus excelentes instalaciones junto a sus condiciones climáticas óptimas todo el año, la convierten en el lugar ideal para preparar la competición y despedir a los participantes.

2.- Un poco de historia

A punto de cumplir 40 años de competición, fue su primera edición en 1973 y se llamaba Whitbread, esta será su 12 edición y su fama de ser la prueba de vela más dura sobre la tierra le viene de los 9 meses de competición que deberán hacer los participantes a lo largo del globo terráqueo, toda una carrera por los mares con las mayores corrientes, los icebergs y la competitividad de los mejores equipos.

3.- El recorrido

La mayor distancia que recorre ninguna prueba, 45.000 millas náuticas por todos los océanos del mundo separados en 11 etapas. Partiendo desde la ciudad de Alicante, tendrán parada en Lisboa, Ciudad del Cabo, Melbourne, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Auckland, Itajai, Newport, Cardiff, Gotemburg y finalmente en La Haya donde se coronará el barco campeón.

4.- Los equipos en liza

Siete serán los equipos que compitan por levantar la preciada copa, la lista la componen
– El team Azkonobel, que fue el primero en apuntarse a la competición, capitaneados los holandeses por Simeon Tienpont.
– El equipo español Mapfre dirigido por Paco Campos que intentará ser el primer equipo español en ser campeón.
– Una cooperación interesante será el Vestas 11th Hour Racing comandados por los estadounidenses Charlie Enright y Mark Towill.
– El equipo hongkonita Team Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag intentará llevar el sabor de la competición a Asia pilotados por el australiano David Witt.
– Otra opción diferente es el Turn the Tide on Plastic liderados por la británica Dee Caffari, es un equipo joven y con muchas ganas de victoria.
– Un segundo equipo holandés es el El equipo Brunel, cuyo capitán EY. Bouwe Bekking volverá a intentar la victoria en esta competición.
– Finalmente el equipo chino DongFeng Racing Team en su segunda participación de la mano del navegante francés Charles Caudrelier buscará repetir pódium. Este equipo preparará su competición en los céntricos Apartamentos Tito San Agustín, modernos y dotados de todas las comodidades, permitirá al equipo partir en plena forma en busca de la victoria.

1.- Volvo Ocean Race and Alicante

The city of Alicante will receive for the fourth time the most important sailing race in the world. This will be the second time since the appointment as a permanent port of departure. Its excellent facilities, together with the magnificent  weather conditions all-year round, make Alicante the ideal place to prepare the competition and say goodbay to the sailors.

2.- A short history

Approaching 40 years of competition, its first edition was in 1973 and it was called Whitbread. This will be the 12th edition and its reputation of being the hardest proof of  sailing race in the world is because of the 9 months of competition that the sailors must do over the Earth. It is about a race sailing the seas with the biggest currents, icebergs and the competition of the best race teams.

3.- The route

The greatest distance travelled by all the races, 45.000 nautical miles over all oceans in the world, divided into 11 stages. Departing from the city of Alicante, there will be stops in Lisbon, Cape Town, Melbourne, Hong Kong,  Guangzhou, Auckland, Itajai, Newport, Cardiff, Gotemburg y finally, the Hague, where the winner ship will be crowned.

4.- Teams in competition

There will be seven teams competing to raise the treasured cup. The list consists of:
– Azkonobel, Dutch team, the first in starting line in the competition, skippered by Simeon Tienpont.
– Mapfre, Spanish team, led by Paco Campos, who will try to be the first Spanish team to be champion.
–An interesting cooperation will be Vestas 11th Hour Racing, commanded by the Americans Charlie Enright and Mark Towill.
–Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag  team, from Hong Kong, will try to bring the flavor of the competition to Asia, driven by the Australian David Witt.
–Another different option is Turn the Tide on Plastic team, led by the British Dee Caffari. It is a young team ready to win.
– A second Dutch team is Brunel, whose leader EY. Bouwe Bekking will try to win this race.
–Lastly, the Chinese team DongFeng Racing Team, in its second participation, hand in hand with Charles Caudrelier, French sailor, will try to get again on the top of the podium. This team will prepare its race in the central Apartamentos Tito San Agustín, modern and well endowed of all the comforts, which allow the team to go, in top shape, in search of victory.
